Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World
Rep. Lala Taliño-Santos recently attended the Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World held at Jakarta, Indonesia that ran from September 6 – 9.2005. Political Party officers from predominantly Muslim countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Bahrain were present as well from Turkey, Morocco, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Talk about taking the meaning literally, the Nacionalistas actually took to sea on board a ocean liner with their better halves in tow. Quantity Over Quality
Two developments have been brought to the fore once more the woeful state of our education system: one is a finding by the British Council that there are too many colleges and universities that are “diluting” the quality of higher education; and the other is the renewed call to increase the number of years in basic education from 10 to 11 and even 12 in order for the country to be at par with the rest of the world.
